Does Human Sex Trafficking Happen In NB?

Human Sex Trafficking in New Brunswick

As Steve Trueman of Community of Hope recently said:

"Human sex trafficking is happening right now, right here in New Brunswick  (emphasis added) and across the entire Atlantic region."

Jenn Fredericks, Chair of the Sex Workers Action Group in Moncton, said:

"Sometimes people will say it's [sex trafficking] more in the big cities — Halifax, Toronto, Niagara — but New Brunswick is no exception. It is happening here in New Brunswick.(emphasis  added).. I've had one girl say to me ...

She was getting no money, she wasn't even being fed for days...She was beaten up multiple times and there was no way to get out ...

I've heard stories where they have been beaten, they have been  raped by the trafficker or the controller..."

Michele Anderson, Sex trafficking specialist, Covenant House:

"Sex trafficking is when someone is forced to sell sex against their will.  This is happening right under our noses. It could be happening to a girl just like a girl you know. They are lured in public places, schools, malls  and online."
